Synopsis

PT>> Bangkok, é uma instalação vídeo que recupera a história e memória de como os capitães José Castelo Glória Alves e carlos Leal Branco, em funções no Centro de Instrução de Condução Auto 5 (CICA 5), foram incumbidos com a única missão do MFA em terras algarvias, nomeadamente a ocupação dos transmissores e repetidores instalados no alto do Fóia, na Serra de Monchique e que emitiam para todo o Algarve”. Os dois militares, hoje em reforma e a residir no concelho de Portimão, em conversa entre si, recordam os momentos – chave dos dias antecedentes à sua missão de ocupação da Fóia cujo nome de código era “Bangkok” Enquanto acompanhamos o relato de como a revolução chegou a Lagos e do papel que os dois militares desempenharam neste importante momento da história portuguesa, o vídeo mostra filmagens imagens contemporâneas do local tratadas em negativo, como se se tratasse de um reverso do positivo de uma imagem ou acontecimento, pretendendo assim convidar à reflexão sobre o sucesso e fracassos ou da dificil convivência entre capitalismo e democracia. 

ENG >> Bangkok is a video installation that recovers the history and memory of how colonels José Castelo Glória Alves and Carlos Leal Branco working at the military training centre for drivers (CICA 5), were assigned with the Armed Forces Movement’s (MFA) only mission in the Algarve, namely the occupation of the radio transmitters and repeaters installed at the top of Fóia, Monchique and which broadcasted throughout the Algarve. The two former colonels, now retired and residing in the municipality of Portimão, in conversation with each other, recall the key moments of the days before and after their mission to occupy Fóia, whose code name was “Bangkok”. As we follow the account of how the revolution came to Lagos, the video shows images of Fóia, treated in negative, as if it were a reverse of the positive, of an image or event, thus intending to invite reflection on the consequences of this important moment in Portuguese history.
